There are vast opportunities to study abroad for young people today, and as the world becomes more accessible and affordable to travel, the number of people wanting to learn a new language is increasing. Combining studying with travel is a great way to improve learning whilst also gaining the invaluable experience of immersing yourself in a completely foreign culture. Once you have decided to study abroad, the most difficult thing is choosing where to head to.

One place stands out for me, the beautiful city of Rome, a place like no other. Once the capital of the world, the ‘Eternal City’ harbours the history, architecture and story of the Roman Empire. One visit and you’ll be hooked, with so much to see and do you can spend hours just wandering the streets staring at numerous monuments, churches and museums, not to mention The Collosseum and Vatican City. Then there are the people of Rome, relaxing outside cafes & restaurants exuding the confidence and passion we all associate with Italians, they make you feel cool just by being around them.

By choosing to study abroad Rome you can throw yourself right into the middle of this fascinating blend of old and new, one of Europe’s major economic centres mixed with the majestic 25 century history of the Roman Empire. Meeting people is never an issue in Rome, with locals happy to chat in the many bars and cafe’s that don the side streets of the city.

And even if History is not your main interest, there is still plenty to keep you entertained; concerts, opera, theatre, movies, Rome has everything you would expect of a modern European city. And as with the majority of Italy, you will find yourself at the height of shopping and fashion, with all major designers represented in the various shopping centres.

Escaping the hustle and bustle of city life is not a problem either; Rome is close to beautiful countryside, coastline, lakes and mountains, all of which are easily accessible thanks to Rome’s extensive travel network. So if you are looking to study abroad, Rome should definitely be high on the list in my opinion, it really is unique city, with incomparable historical sites, and it will certainly enhance your learning and understanding of a different culture.
